Street Sweeping, November 20th & 21st

The Village of Mt. Zion will be performing its annual fall street sweeping on Monday, November 20th and Tuesday, November 21st.  The Village of Mt. Zion is asking that residents remove all cars on curb and gutter streets between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm each day to ensure that the accumalted debris (sand, leaves and trash) are removed. Ground Breaking for New Water Tower

Village of Mt. Zion officials and other key project stakeholders will gather on November 9, 2017 at 3 p.m. to commemorate the groundbreaking of the Village’s water system improvements. The ceremony will take place at the proposed tank site near 430 S. Illinois Route 121 on the south end of the Village.

Mt. Zion Residents Benefit from Electrical Aggregation

Village of Mt. Zion residents will soon see a savings on their power bill due to electrical aggregation.  Recent bids for the electrical aggregation program will lower power supply bills beginning in December.  The low bidder was Mid-American Energy and the rates are as follows:  December 2017-June 2018 $0.0430/kWh and July 2018-June 2020 $0.0498/kWh. (The current rate with Homefield Energy is $0.05824/kWh.)

Main Street Traffic Delays & Sidewalk Closed

The Village of Mt. Zion is working on a water project in front of McGaughey School on Main Street.  A portion of the sidewalk has been removed and traffic may be delayed at times.  The project is expected to last the next couple of weeks, weather permitting.  When finished the sidewalk will be repaired and widened. New Water Tower

Construction of a new 1 million gallon water storage tank and upgrades to the existing booster station is being partially financed by the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (SRF).  The SRF program is administered by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and receives a portion of its money to fund these types of projects from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  Once complete, this project will improve water quality for area residents and businesses in the Village of Mt. Zion by providing added capacity and increased distribution system pressures. SRF programs operate in each state to provide communities the resources necessary to build, maintain, and improve the infrastructure that protects one of our most valuable resources: water.

Ameren Substation Expansion - Woodland Drive

8/28/2017

Ameren's Gas Division will be working in the coming weeks to expand the gas substation on Woodland Drive near Goodwin Park.  Woodland Drive will remain open, but traffic may be congested or lane usage may be limited during the project.  The project may also block the Mt. Zion Trail from time to time.  Please plan for delays when traveling on Woodland Drive near Goodwin Park until the project is complete.

Sales Tax Change Reminder

A reminder that effective July 1, 2017, sales tax rates in Macon County will increase by .25% due to the voter approved increase to the Macon County Public Safety Tax. The sales tax rate for Mt. Zion will be 7.75% effective July 1st. For questions regarding rates outside of Mt. Zion, please contact the Illinois Department of Revenue at 1-800-732-8866.

Mt. Zion, IL - In order to make it a safer intersection, the Village of Mt. Zion will be installing additional stop signs on South Henderson at the intersection of South Henderson and Fletcher Park Blvd. The stop signs will be installed on May 24th. Please use extreme caution while drivers are becoming acquainted with the new signs. Please observe the signs by coming to a full stop before proceeding in a safe manner.

What is that green marking in my yard?

Mt. Zion Public Works employees will be marking the Village's sanitary sewer system including manholes and some piping with green paint or green flags.  The Village is locating the sanitary sewer system for GIS mapping and is NOT going to perform any work in your yard other than marking the system. Splash Pad Voting Underway

The Village of Mt. Zion Parks & Recreation Commission is asking for your help to determine the final design for the Splash Pad planned for Fletcher Park.  In order to finalize the engineering, a final design must be chosen and you can help by voting with a donation. To vote, following the link below and make a donation for your favorite design: Sports Theme or Nature Theme.  $1.00=1 vote  The design that raises the most money will be the winner and used for the final design.
