The Village of Mt. Zion is advising residents currently enrolled in the Village’s municipal electric aggregation program to carefully review their electric supply options following recent rate changes.
At this time, the default residential supply rate offered through Ameren is $0.10965 per kWh, which is lower than the current negotiated aggregation rate provided by Direct Energy at $0.1276 per kWh. As a result, residents may benefit financially by opting out of the municipal aggregation program and returning to Ameren’s default supply service.
The municipal aggregation program was originally established to help secure stable and competitive electric supply pricing for residents. While aggregation programs can provide savings during certain market conditions, utility supply rates can fluctuate over time, and residents are encouraged to periodically compare available options to determine what is best for their household.
Residents enrolled in the aggregation program should have received information from Direct Energy regarding their current rate and instructions for opting out if they choose to do so. There is no fee to opt out and return to Ameren’s default supply service.
Village officials encourage residents to:
- Review their current electric supply rate on their utility bill
- Compare the aggregation rate of $0.1276/kWh with Ameren’s current default rate of $0.10965/kWh
- Contact Direct Energy directly if they wish to opt out of the program
- Phone: 1-866-968-8065
- Email: aggregationsupport@directenergy.com
- When emailing, please include the name account holder name, the service address, Ameren account number, and a phone number.
Residents with questions regarding their electric supply service may contact Ameren Illinois or Direct Energy for additional account information.
The Village remains committed to providing residents with transparent information so they can make informed decisions regarding their utility services.
