Mt. Zion, IL – July 1, 2024 – The Village of Mt. Zion Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting on July 8, 2024, at 5:15 P.M. to hear a presentation from Illinois Health & Wellness, LLC regarding the possibility of a cannabis dispensary in Mt. Zion at Village Hall, 1400 Mt. Zion Pkwy, Mt. Zion, Illinois 62549.
In 2019, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act was signed into law by Governor JB Pritzker legalizing the possession and private use of cannabis for Illinois residents over 21 years of age. The Act preserved local zoning authority and authorized municipalities to prohibit (opt-out) or significantly limit the location of cannabis businesses by ordinance. The Village of Mt. Zion did not opt-out or restrict cannabis business by ordinance.
The purpose of the special meeting is to hear a presentation from Illinois Health & Wellness, LLC, and allow the public to comment on the issue. In addition to the meeting, comments regarding the issue can be emailed to Julie Miller, Village Administrator at j_miller@mtzion.com. All comments received will be shared with the Village Board of Trustees.
