Ground Breaking for New Water Tower

11/7/2017

Village of Mt. Zion officials and other key project stakeholders will gather on November 9, 2017 at 3 p.m. to commemorate the groundbreaking of the Village’s water system improvements. The ceremony will take place at the proposed tank site near 430 S. Illinois Route 121 on the south end of the Village.

The project, which includes a 1-million-gallon, composite-style elevated water storage tank, booster station upgrades and large diameter water main looping, will provide significant improvements to available fire flow and storage in the system. The tank is a significant upgrade from the Village’s current 100,000-gallon water tower, constructed in the 1950s. The improvements will also provide better pressures and flows to the Village water system.

“The Village is taking a proactive approach to upgrade its water system infrastructure to provide safe, high-quality water service to its residents,” said Michael Buzicky, PE, MSA Professional Services (MSA) project manager. “The Village purchases its water from the City of Decatur, and the improvements to the connected water system will benefit both municipalities.”

MSA provided planning, modeling, design, funding assistance and construction engineering services. The project is funded through the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) State Revolving Loan Fund for Public Water Systems in Illinois. Caldwell Tanks, Inc, Louisville, Ky., is serving as contractor for the elevated storage tank, and Korte & Luitjohan, Highland, Ill., is serving as contractor for the booster station.
